The investiture ceremony for the PSA will be held on the 10th of October 2022, between 1 and 2 PM in the De' Nobili Hall.

HOD's Message

The Mission of the Department of Physics is to inculcate in its students a deep commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding in the Physical Sciences through promoting a spirit of open-ended intellectual curiosity. We encourage our students to be innovative and adapt to new developments in society through an emphasis on quality in teaching, learning, and research. We believe that students must be given opportunities not just to improve themselves but to contribute to furthering the subject itself. Our Physics Students' Association (PSA) encourages students to explore the subject and its intricacies without being restricted by the bounds set by their traditional curriculum. It aims to encourage and guide students in their pursuit of understanding the subject of Physics by establishing foundations that enable them to grow and flourish. It permits students to cultivate their interpersonal skills and improve their ability to collaborate with others. This association belongs to a small minority of students who are dreamers, believers, thinkers, and doers. All the best for all the activities planned. Keep inspiring everyone around you…

About Us

What is PSA_SJU?

the Physics Students' Association (PSA), Department of Physics | St. Joseph's University works to advance a platform that meets all the needs of physics enthusiasts. In order to give our enthusiasts an understanding of what a physics community can do to bring out every potential quantum and mindfully use their resources to have a great career, this association will serve as the home for student collaborations, lecture series across platforms, physics-related events on and off campus, physics related activities, events and much more.

Our Vision

The physics student association is available to assist undergraduates majoring in physics from any year in a variety of ways. We coordinate lectures and other physics-related events, assist the students in reaching out to the physics department, and keep them informed about goings-on in and around the college. It will be a platform where people can share their work. We place a strong emphasis on developing communities, with a particular focus on physics aficionados. Amateur physicists will have the opportunity to interact with seasoned professors and physicists and, ideally, work together on a range of projects. A win-win scenario for everyone will result from choosing the correct community, excitement, and platform.

Events organised by the PSA

The Events organised by the PSA are analogous to photosynthesis in plants, i.e they are integral to our organisation. The PSA has many events but the 'Big Three' are:

Spectra

Spectra has been the flagship event of the PSA for many years and will be grander this year than ever before! The Intercollegiate Physics fest this academic year will boast having events like:

Integration Bee

Lecture and Presentation Contest

Paint the Physics

Short film Contest

Physics Air Crash

Phyics based Treasure Hunt

Quantumnia

This is a new event planned by the PSA as an initiative to promote an interest in the Quantum Sciences among students. Some of the tentatively planned events include:

Quantum Slam

Qiskit and Q-World workshops

IBM Quantum Experience

Qiskit Advocated talks

Open Source Drives | Github

JPT

JPT a rather apt acronym, stands for the 'Josephite Physicists' Tournament'. This event can bbe called a mock version of the esteemed 'IPT' or International Physicists Tournament. The goal of the JPT is to prepare students from our University for the IPT by familiarising them with problems of a similar standard.

Other events include Formation of Physics Alumni networks, providing career advice talks, Friday Colloquia on research options and conference experience and much more!

The exact dates of the events will be released on the website and social media pages shortly.
